Constitution Day is getting close, and with it, a great time to take a stand for your rights on campus. One of the most fundamental rights – and most important to college life – is the right to speak your mind. And yet, it’s also one that schools seem most set on squashing.
Thankfully, students across the United States have the support of the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education. And that support can make all the difference when the time comes to sue your school, as one of our Campus Coordinators in 2013, Rob van Tuinen found out.
Join Students For Liberty today at 6:00 pm EST to hear from Rob about his experience with campus censorship during our weekly All-SFL Webinar: When to Sue Your University. Just register at the link and log in around 6:00. This will be a great opportunity to speak with someone who has been through the process of suing a school over speech successfully – to the tune of $50,000.
Fittingly, Rob was first confronted by campus authorities on Constitution Day 2013 for distributing pocket Constitutions to fellow students at Modesto Junior College. You can read more about his experiences here. Come with questions and ideas for your own campus!
We hope that Rob’s story will inspire even more Constitution Day activism this Thursday. We’ve been sharing ideas for activism events throughout the past few weeks if you need ideas. And don’t forget to apply for a $100 activism grant to fund your Constitution Day activities.
