Yesterday was Constitution Day, and dozens of student groups across the U.S. started conversations about the Constitution on their campus through activism and outreach events. Whether engaging with issues like free speech restrictions though free speech walls and balls, or getting people thinking with Constitution trivia, SFL-ers made sure the voice of liberty was well-heard this Constitution Day. Some even hosted events throughout the week to highlight different aspects of the Constitution and Bill of Rights – and some questioned what we as pro-liberty people were celebrating in the first place.
Students For Liberty provided $100 grants to help students spruce up their outreach table, hand out pocket Constitutions, build a free speech wall, or put on a creative Constitution-themed event of their own design.
In addition to approving 50+ Constitution Day activism grants for libertarian student leaders, SFL drew upon our student and alumni network to provide ideas for engaging Constitution Day events, like a fun pong game for effective tabling. We shared the story of Rob van Tuinen, a SFL alum who sued his school and won – after the authorities shut him down for hanging out pocket Constitutions in 2013.
You can catch up with some of the Constitution Day activity by checking out the #ConstitutionOnCampus hashtag. And if you’re holding a late event or hosted one this week and still want to apply, the grant program is open to reimburse costs from any Constitution events you put together! During or after your event, share your photos with the hashtag #ConstitutionOnCampus so the world can see that students care about the preservation of civil liberties. Students For Liberty will not only pay for up to $100 of the cost of your event, but if you use the hashtag, you’ll be considered for a $1,000 activism prize to help you keep the pressure on the rest of the semester. And be sure to check out the list of resources and ideas – including the recording of our All-SFL Webinar with Rob – on the Constitution Day grant page.

And if you’re not already excited for this year’s ISFLC, we just announced an awards dinner with noted satirist, and ISFLC16 speaker P.J. O’Rourke!
