Screen Tickling Giants and #SpeakFreely

Jon Stewart, of Daily Show fame, is someone you’ve heard of. You may not have heard of his Egyptian counterpart, a man who is intimately familiar with how threatened free speech is.

During the Arab Spring, Bassem Youssef, a heart surgeon by trade, took on the role of a full-time comedian. Free speech is not protected by law in Egypt and this made Bassem’s show a center of not just attention, but controversy. Bassem and his team quickly found themselves in the midst of a dangerous struggle for free speech and democracy, all while holding those in power accountable.

As a Speak Freely Advocate, we want to provide you with the opportunity to host a screening of Tickling Giants, a film chronicling Bassem’s story. Check out the trailer here:

You will be provided with an official Tickling Giants screening kit, which includes a discussion guide, flyers, social media images, tips to set up your screening, answers to frequently asked questions, and more.

By spreading Bassem’s story, you will be instilling the value of free speech in the viewers.
