From Local Coordinator to Director of the Libertarian Movement in Colombia

Julio Mejia was a Local Coordinator from the first cohort of Eslibertad. During his time within Eslibertad leadership, Julio became the Regional Director for Colombia and an Executive Board Member of Eslibertad for the period of 2015-2016.

Nowadays, Julio has become a political activist in Colombia, being interviewed and covered by major media outlets such as El Tiempo and El Espectador in Colombia about different political issues like the peace deal in Colombia during 2016.

At the beginning of 2016, Julio started to gather with people who actively participated on Daniel Reisbeck’s campaign in order to explore the possibility of generating a political project for the long term which had libertarian ideas as their main goal. For this particular project, Julio confesses that SFL-Eslibertad training was vital, since this allowed him to put in practice all the skills he had learned at Eslib and was able to develop a strategical plan for the “Movimiento Libertario” (Libertarian Movement- movimientolibertario.co) in Colombia.

Due to his perseverance and leadership skills, his peers at the “Movimiento Libertario” elected him in 2016 as the Director of this new political project in Colombia, which currently is a citizen movement. From that moment on, Julio has been leading several initiatives advocating the ideas of liberty through the Movimiento Libertario in Colombia. The Movimiento Libertario is growing in Colombia with new chapters being created all along the country and preparing themselves for the 2022 elections.

Nowadays, libertarian ideas are on the rise within the political spectrum in Colombia as Julio continues to advocate for a new political proposal based on libertarian ideas.
