Linda Kavuka is a member of the African Executive Board and the Communications Intern in charge of External Communications for African Students For Liberty (ASFL). On behalf of ASFL, Linda has partnered with Liberal Alliance Denmark, Kenya Association of Manufacturers and Eastern Africa Policy Center in the project “Fostering Issue Based Political Dialogue in Kenya”. The objective of the project is to create a platform where the business community works together with political parties in creating and implementing policies and also to build the capacity of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and political parties to work together to improve the political environment so that it may be more inclusive for all stake holders and groups of society. The goal is to have society based on issues and not tribal politics as is the current situation.
Linda thus represents the youth interest in the project which has been divided into two phases. Phase 1 involved introduction of the project and capacity building of the select civil society organizations between July and November of 2016. Phase 2 of the project is running from November 2016 to November 2017 and involves hosting Campus Caravan events on Issue Based Dialogue in the 7 counties of the project. Training of the project youth ambassadors, political debates of the governor’s seat candidates, forums between political parties and the CSOs are also included in the project. At the end of the project, there will be the compilation of a governance audit and finally a conference will be held.
Currently, ASFL Kenya as led by Linda is hosting the Campus Caravan on Issue Based Dialogue and so far has visited schools in 3 Counties in Nairobi, Eldoret and Kisumu. The team is set to host the remaining 4 events in April followed by training 30 select youth ambassadors in May together with members of the Liberal Alliance Youth from Denmark. The trained ambassadors will represent the youth interest in the remaining parts of the project.
