MARCH 2017 UPDATE


First Set of Ugandan Local Coordinators Emerge, Organize Events

In the month of March, ASFL welcomed its first set of Local Coordinators from Uganda. The youngsters swung to work with a tabling event at the University of Kisubi on March 17th, an Entrepreneurship Symposium on the 28th of March at Kyambogo University featuring Dr. Pythagoras Petratos as guest speaker. Also, they organized a National Entrepreneurship Conference on the 31st of March at Nkumba University with the team “Unlocking the barriers of economic prosperity for a free society”


ASFL East African Regional Director on Radio

The Regional Director of SFL for East Africa, Aimable Manirakiza was recently on Radio 10, Kigali, Rwanda to discuss the ASFL “Foundations of a Free Society” Project in Burundi, Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo which he currently coordinates.

He is working with students in the 3 countries to educate young people about freedom and creating student groups on campuses to spread the understanding of libertarianism.


Local Coordinator (LC) Application Opens

The LC program is the premier program for actively advancing the ideas of free markets and individual liberty on college & campuses. ASFL Local Coordinators (LCs) are the face of liberty in their campuses. They are the muscle of the movement, empowering students in their areas to defend the ideas of liberty. The LC training entails a rigorous training process on a range of topics, including leadership, communication, social change, new and old media, student organizing, activism, organizing events, and others.

ASFL-Kenya Campus Caravan Kicks off, Visits 3 Universities

ASFL – Kenya Campus Caravan on issue based politics kicked off in March with dialogues organized in 3 universities. On March 18, The Caravan was at Strathmore University, on 24th March, Kisii University, and on the 25th march, Mount Kenya University, Eldoret Campus.The Caravan, being coordinated by Linda Kavuka aim at promoting issue based political dialogue in Kenya, as well as foster deeper understanding of good governance, rule of law and youth participation in governance as the country prepares for its elections later in the year.


ASFL University of Cape Town Book Fare

On the 7th & 8th of March, African Students For Liberty at UCT organized a 2-day book fare during the Plaza Week at the university.

The event, organized by SFL Southern Africa Regional Director, Nicholas Woode-Smith was meant to interact with students on the ideas of liberty and SFL.


Campus Journalism Conference at OAU

The Association of Campus Journalists, Obafemi Awolowo University (ACJ-OAU) partnered ASFL in OAU to organize a Campus Journalism Conference with students from 6 higher institutions present. SFL African Executive Board Chair, Olufemi Ogunjobi (a journalist) stirred students at the conference to embrace the tenets of liberty and serve as agents of economic freedom, human rights and free speech.

Several students stopped at the ASFL stand to interact and get books and other SFL swags.
