AUGUST 2017 UPDATE

Local Coordinator Retreat

South Asia held it’s Local Coordinator Retreat on the 19th and 20th August 2017, in New Delhi, India. The Retreat saw newly recruited Local Coordinators fly in from different cities within India, as well as from cities in Bangladesh, making this South Asia’s first International Retreat.

This Retreat was also unique because it was planned, organised and hosted entirely by the South Asia Executive Board – another first in the history of SASFL. Over the two days of the Retreat, the EB conducted sessions on the different Tracks and Regions, explained the role of a Local Coordinator in depth, as well as shared the Strategic Action Plans for 2017-18 with the LCs. The presentations during the Retreat were conducted in a workshop manner, in order to engage with the LCs as well as make them participate in the sessions. The highlight of the Retreat was the session conducted with our partner organisation in India – the Centre for Civil Society. On day two, Mr. Parth Shah, spoke about Liberalism in South Asia and patiently answered the numerous questions which the LCs had.

Exponential Growth

South Asia is currently growing at an exponential rate, with its current batch of Local Coordinators being the largest one in its history, since the inception of the chapter in 2012. After this Retreat, a Retreat for Pakistani LCs and the remaining International LCs from countries like Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan and Afghanistan is being planned in the coming months. With a bunch of enthusiastic student libertarian leaders, 2017-18 seems like an exciting year ahead!
