Fighting Against the War on Drugs in Belarus
European Students For Liberty (ESFL) in Belarus hosted their first End the Drug War activism with their “The War on Drugs = The War on Us” campaign, which garnered media attention. This is significant for Belarus because it’s the first time this sort of conversation is being had in Belarus.
Along with Czechia-based LEGALAYZ who are undertaking a “Legalize Belarus” campaign, ESFL Belarus set out to discuss questions such as, “What is the ‘war on drugs’ and why does it not work? What might be the benefits and harms of marijuana use? Is legalization is possible in Belarus? What are the problems faced by prisoners under Belorussian law?”
Earlier this September, ESFL Belarus hosted a screening of the film, The Culture High. After the viewing, all the audience members remained behind to discuss the film and to talk about how to influence public opinion towards marijuana in Belarus. Along with these events educating students about the failed war on drugs, our student leaders also held an event where they hosted one of the most well-known libertarians and economists in Belarus, Jarasłaŭ Ramančuk, who spoke to a group of students. These events show that ESFL Belarus has been very active and dedicated, getting a strong start to the school year!
