North America:
September 2017 Update

SFL North America
SEPTEMBER 2017 UPDATE

September was a great month for North America at Students For Liberty! Students that began classes in August are back in the swing of things, and even the last universities to start are now back in session. While some may be sad that summer has drawn to a close, we’re excited to be reunited with our SFamiLies on campus once again!

Our growing group network and student leaders are working hard to spread the ideas of a free society on their campuses and we are so proud of all their hard work! Their excitement about the ideas of liberty and dedication to the cause is apparent in the recent growth of our network.

Campus Activism

Now that rest of our Campus Coordinators are back on their respective campuses, we are getting back into the swing of things! During the first full month of the semester, our fantastic leaders hosted over 50 campus events!

In September alone, our student leaders partnered with various pro-liberty groups and organizations on their campuses including Young Americans for Liberty, the Foundation for Economic Education, College Republicans, Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation, Foundation for Individual Rights in Education, College Libertarians, Students in Support of Free Speech, the Ayn Rand Institute, Young Democrats, Turning Point USA, Liberty in North Korea, and the Atlas Society!

The long list of clubs and organizations our campus leaders worked with during the month of September alone shows that the ideas of a free society cross ideological lines and are not dependent on party affiliation! During the month of September, our Campus Coordinators brought together Republicans, Democrats, Libertarians, and everyone in between to find common ground and advance the cause of a freer future for everyone. It’s exciting to see that liberty is not limited by party affiliation.

Group Networks

Students For Liberty was proud to launch our North America Group Network program in September! Since SFL is not a top down, chapter based organization, but rather a network of support for pro-liberty students across North America and the world. We are proud to have many individuals and pro-liberty groups a part of our network!

Joining our North American Group Network has many perks! When you sign up for our network you will have access to some of the best resources available from Students For Liberty and our wonderful partner organizations.

These perks include:

  • Activism grants of up to $250

We know activism can be hard work, and we don’t want logistics or funding to get in the way of spreading the message of liberty on your campus. Let Students For Liberty help you take your campus activism to the next level by making sure to register your pro-liberty student group for the SFL Group Network today.

Media Hits

Our Campus Coordinators earned well over 20 media hits this month – including op-eds published in the Washington Examiner, Salt Lake Tribune, and numerous articles on Campus Reform just to name a few!

Campus Coordinator Yuka Kato from Reed College in Oregon was quoted in The Economist last month in their article “Arguments over free speech on campus are not left v right”. Yuka, explained his college is “…an environment with limited representation of opinion, and it can be hostile to students who hold other views.”

Students For Liberty’s CEO, Dr. Wolf von Laer was interviewed in the Huffington Post this month in an article “Why the Fight For Freedom is Global”. Dr. von Laer was interviewed by Steve Mariotti, founder of the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) and a Huffington Post Contributor. Mariotti explains that “Rather than creating greater divide, Students For Liberty are instead embracing difference and collaborating across ideologies with the common goal of a freer society.”

Regional Conferences

Already we’ve began hosting this year’s round of Regional Conferences. These events are hosted all over the US and Canada promoting liberty across this mighty continent. All the conferences are conceived of, organized by, and run by our student leaders. They pour tons of effort into these conferences, from securing a venue, to inviting speakers, to forming a conference around a theme, and so much more. These Regional Conferences are free to attend, but you must register to reserve your spot.
