Former student leader now Co-Founder and Chairman of a public policy organization
Former National Coordinator, European Students For Liberty Board Member, and Student of the Year Slobodan Franeta recently founded The Lucha Institute in Montenegro.
The Lucha Institute is a public policy research organization dedicated to enlightenment principles of individual liberty, free markets, and limited government in Europe. It is composed of a network of young and prospective researchers who promote the ideas of a free and prosperous Europe. They strive to ‘see beyond the horizon’, which is the slogan of The Lucha Institute.
Slobodan first got involved with Students For Liberty through our Free Market Road Show event in Montenegro in 2015. He subsequently founded Montenegrin Students For Liberty.
“During my time in SFL, I had the opportunity to be a member of European Executive Board as the Brand manager and also to work closely with Jan Škapa on the IT team, as an IT associate for about half a year in Students for Liberty. All those experiences were valuable for me as I managed to develop my skills and expand my network across the globe which served as an excellent platform for the Institute I founded this year.”
Reflecting on his time as a student leader, Slobodan said, “It was one of the most valuable experiences in my life and I am constantly advising young people to not miss such opportunity as Students for Liberty helped me to improve and also gain some skills. The most valuable thing about SFL is the wide network it offers and from that network it’s impossible to not learn something new and something valuable.”
Before he got involved with SFL, Slobodan did not think there was a large number of people in Montenegro who were interested in pro-liberty ideas. Nonetheless, he set out to make an impact. To others who may feel the same about their community, he says one of the most important things is to not just preach liberty from books, but to live it: “books are the introduction, but our life experience and all our work needs to be our legacy to pro-liberty philosophies and people who we are building into future leaders.”
