Liberty Memes is coming to LibertyCon

Here at Students For Liberty, we know our conferences are not just educational, but entertaining as well. That’s why we’re thrilled to announce that the popular and infamous Liberty Memes will be coming to LibertyCon! Liberty Memes will discuss the importance of humor in today’s volatile political environment, and how libertarians can avoid getting sucked into either side of the popular American “left / right” political dichotomy.

Founded in 2013, Liberty Memes is a Facebook page that uses memes to spread the message of liberty to millions of people every day. One of the lessons of the 2016 US Presidential election is undoubtedly that memes are a powerful tool which can have a real-world political, social, and economic impact. Liberty Memes gained national attention in July 2016, at the height of the presidential election season, when Facebook censored some of their most popular memes mocking Hillary Clinton.

Liberty Memes is run by two brothers, Peter and David Gay. Respectively, they are known as Admin 1 and Admin 2.

Raised in a conservative Presbyterian family in Upstate New York, they became convinced of the principles of libertarianism by reading the works of J. Gresham Machen, Frederic Bastiat, Ron Paul, and Tom Woods.

Peter created Liberty Memes in 2013 as a way to catalogue his contribution to what he calls the political cartooning of the 21st Century. He holds a BA in Philosophy from Covenant College (’03), and works in the electrical industry. He and his wife have three sons.

David has been a libertarian political activist for the past decade, starting with his work as the most successful precinct captain in the country for Ron Paul’s presidential campaign in 2008. He’s been a featured speaker at numerous political events. David works as a medical interpreter. His wife is a political refugee from Cuba and they have four children.

The page currently boasts over 440,000 followers and reaches millions of viewers every week.

LibertyCon takes place March 2-4 at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, DC. A select number of travel scholarships are still available.
