What if you had the chance to learn from some of the top women leaders in the liberty movement? To pick their brains on issues of empowerment, gender, and how to get the most out of what is sometimes seen as a male-dominated movement?
Well, get your questions ready! On Saturday, August 1st, Students For Liberty will be hosting a Women For Liberty Leadership Summit in Arlington, VA, and all libertarian ladies are welcome to attend! You’ll hear from speakers like Liberty Fund, Inc. senior fellow Sarah Skwire, who recently lent her voice to the latest round of speculation about the lack of women in the liberty movement. Another segment will feature a panel of former SFL leaders who have gone on to successful careers in the liberty movement. Every speaker will share her own unique perspective on what it means to be both a woman and a leader for liberty, recognizing that — just like there’s no one explanation for the overrepresentation of men in the movement — there is no one way to be a libertarian woman.
The summit is meant to be a space to make your voice heard and to honor and remember the mark that women have made in the history of classical liberal thought. From foremothers like Voltairine DeCleyre and Rose Wilder Lane to current libertarian stars such as Reason editor Katherine Mangu-Ward, the movement would not be where it is today without the thoughtful dedication of libertarian women.
So, check out the recent work of SFL’s women leaders, and join us on August 1st at the Institute for Humane Studies to become part of the conversation. Programming begins at 10:00 AM and concludes with an evening social in Arlington. There are a limited number of travel scholarships for SFL women that wish to attend, so register today!
Thanks to everyone who made the 2015 WFL Leadership Summit our best one yet, especially the Institute for Humane Studies for donating the space!
