Do you aspire to be a young professional? One step on this path is an opportunity presented by our friends at the Adam Smith Institute (ASI) in London.

ASI hosts an annual ‘Young Writer on Liberty’ competition centered around a certain theme and this year’s theme is the opportunities, challenges, and obstacles that come with new technologies.

Think of how modern technology will change the world and what policy implications will come along with genetic engineering, driverless cars, augmented reality, or anything else which will fit the essay theme. Essays focusing on the principles of free markets and individual liberty will get special consideration.

Previously, ASI hosted an essay theme centered around what steps could be taken to result in a freer UK. A prize recipient in that competition was Tamay Besiroglu who wrote on a free market solution to university funding.

This competition is for young people who are able to write in a creative and succinct way. Entries should showcase your knowledge of the subject, your ability to clearly write an argument, and a serious amount of research.

To enter ASI’s competition, you must be under 21 and you must submit three separate essays formatted in the style of posts found on the ASI blog.

Prizes are available in the form of money, books, work experience, and, lest we forget, being published.

All entries must be submitted before midnight in the UK on Tuesday, February 28, 2017.
