 SFL SUCCESS STORY:
Ryan Khurana

European Students For Liberty

Studying in the UK and looking towards the future of liberty

Ryan Khurana is a 20 year old Canadian studying PPE in Manchester. While in Canada, he maintained a comic book store which developed his business sense and entrepreneurial interests. He is an active debater at his university, participating in numerous public debates against researchers, professors, and political campaigners. While at the university, he has written regularly for numerous student publications on topics such as homelessness, health care, economic research, and geopolitics. He formerly managed a student-led extreme poverty charity in Manchester, a subsidiary of the Saint Vincent de Paul Society, which addressed homelessness, old-age poverty, at-risk youths, and the adult disabled in the city. He formerly interned at the General Medical Council, doing research on health education, aiding in forming a statistical database on progression in the medical profession. This experience influenced the current research he does for the Institute of Economic Affairs on primary care incentives. Recently, he won a pitch competition at an entrepreneurship competition for his proposal regarding a Virtual Reality system for the real estate market. He is also currently working on a dissertation on the topic of Artificial Intelligence and its labor market impacts.

The Breakthrough Prize proposal he was nominated for was related to housing policy, and using market mechanisms to free up the supply of land for building, while simultaneously protecting land of environmental and aesthetic quality. The proposal also addressed the onerous permitting requirements to build, and simplified the planning permission system.

Reflecting on how Students For Liberty has shaped his development, Ryan says, “SFL has been a strong source of community for me. During my time here, I have built a diverse network of people whose constant exchange of ideas, and own individual ambition, allows for continuous mutual benefit and development.”

We’re grateful to have dedicated students such as Ryan as a a part of our network and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for him!
