ASFL’s Moronfolu Adeniyi’s National Drive For Drug Policy Reforms, Harm Reduction In Nigeria
Moronfolu Adeniyi, ASFL West Africa Regional Director has been nominated as 2018 Student Organiser of the Year by Students For Sensible Drug Policy.
A graduate of Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Moronfolu is a drug policy advocate and currently a front runner in national drive on drug policy reforms in Nigeria and presently the National coordinator for Students for Sensible Drug Policy in Nigeria.
Under Moronfolu’s leadership since May 2017, SSDP Nigeria has created huge impact by giving young people the priority to engage in an open debate related to drug policy, harm reduction, peer education and held series of outreaches across the country.

In the past year, SSDP Nigeria was added to the community intervention network on drugs. As a reward for their outstanding achievements, they collaborated with other organizations such as YouthRise Nigeria, and African Students for Liberty who added to the intellectual development of the leaders to host its first National Summit last November. He was also invited to attend a United Nations Office on Drugs and Crimes symposium where he featured on a panel and gave a presentation.
For Moronfolu, punitive actions against young people and people who use drug is a crime not drugs. Drug use is not a crime but the punitive actions. ‘It’s the time for us as Africans to run to policy change in other to save our generation.’
A major force in Nigeria for drug reforms, Moronfolu has also engaged in media advocacy both on radio and television. He was recently featured on Nigeria’s ‘The Podium Show’ where he talked about Drugs, Drug policy and the right approach to solve the menace caused by drugs In Nigeria, & West Africa.
Similarly, SSDP Nigeria recently engaged with stakeholders, policy makers, law enforcement officers, youth, and students towards the promotion of humane and just drug policy and harms reduction approach.

Moronfolu was handed over with three SSDP chapters in two Nigerian states. Nine months into his leadership, SSDP has its presence in twelve states and seventeen chapters across the country’s geopolitical zones. The group has more than 200 members with more students and civil society activists hoping to get membership and collaborate with them.
The group has been sub-divided into several units to meet the need of the teeming youths of the country – with inspired and motivated young people to carry on the message.
