The Frederick Douglass Liberty Forum at LibertyCon
2018 marks the 200th anniversary of Frederick Douglass’s birth. He was born into slavery and later escaped, going on to become one of America’s most notable abolitionists and a man remembered for his powerful speeches and writings urging for social reform in the United States.
In honor of Frederick Douglass and his lasting legacy, we are thrilled to be hosting the Frederick Douglass Liberty Forum at LibertyCon this year.
This panel will seek to address issues facing the African-American community. Throughout the panel we will cover issues related to economic liberty, criminal justice reform, and school choice among other topics. The panel will feature political operatives C.J. Sailor and Eugene Craig as well as current Campus Coordinator Michael Roundtree. SFL’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities Student Outreach Associate Matthew Reed will moderate the panel.
The Panelists
C.J. Sailor
Detroit native C.J.Sailor has several years of experience in providing organizational and program development, building coalitions, strategic planning, public engagement and team management. C.J. worked tirelessly for Rand Paul for President, Inc., where he was the Southeast Regional Director of Students for Rand. He was also the Director of Free Speech & Special Projects for Young Americans for Liberty, Inc. where he drove development and coordination for over 600 college and university student chapter events nationwide, prepared and drafted talking points for student media interviews, and built coalitions with stakeholders and partnering organizations.
Eugene Craig III
Eugene Craig III is the Managing Partner of X-Factor Strategies. He has previously served as the Vice-Chair of the Maryland Republican Party. He is a political Strategist and Commentator that has appeared on CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, TV one NewsOne Now, and has been featured in print outlets. He is a member of the 20/20 Leaders of America Policy Advisory Council. He has also served as a Students For Liberty Campus Coordinator for the DMV region.
Michael Roundtree
Mike Roundtree is a native of Chicago, Illinois who is pursuing a Masters in Physics at Clark Atlanta University where he is currently a campus coordinator. While his career interests surround the subtleties of the computational sciences, the ideas of liberty and the individual being central to critically impacting the world are key to him. Politically he is interested in engaging African American communities that are traditionally left out of the political engagement spectrum: effectively increasing activism and political astuteness among these communities.
LibertyCon will take place March 2- 4 at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, DC.
